একটি বিশেষ বিজ্ঞপ্তি
ছাত্র সংসদ নির্বাচনের দাবি ও যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে শিক্ষামন্ত্রীর ছাত্র খুনের প্রচেষ্টার খবর বাজারে দাবানলের গতিতে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। বিভিন্ন জায়গার ছাত্র থেকে শুরু করে গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় জনগণ— সবাই এমন অপরাধের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদে সরব হয়েছেন। বেশ কিছু সংবাদমাধ্যম এই সহজ-সরল সত্যগুলো তুলে ধরার বদলে যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় ছাত্রসমাজের বিরুদ্ধে সুপরিকল্পিতভাবে প্রোপাগান্ডা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে। যাদের মধ্যে প্রথম স্থানে রয়েছে বৈদ্যুতিন সংবাদমাধ্যম ‘রিপাবলিক বাংলা’। বেশ কিছুদিন ধরে তারা পুনরায় বলতে শুরু করেছে যে, যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় ছাত্রসমাজ দেশদ্রোহী। এর মাধ্যমে আদতে তারা যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় ছাত্রসমাজ, সর্বোপরি চলমান গণতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলনগুলির বিরুদ্ধে জনমত গঠনের প্রক্রিয়া চালাচ্ছে। এর আগেও এই চ্যানেলটি যে কোনও ন্যায্য দাবিদাওয়া নিয়ে তৈরি হওয়া গণতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলনের বিরুদ্ধে এমন মিথ্যা প্রচার চালিয়েছে। যেমন সিএএ-এনআরসিবিরোধী আন্দোলন, কৃষক আন্দোলন প্রভৃতি। পাশাপাশি তারা সমান্তরালভাবে ক্ষমতাধারী একটি বিশেষ রাজনৈতিক দলের মতাদর্শগত অ্যাজেন্ডাকে পুষ্ট করতে অনবরত প্রোপাগান্ডা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে। ফলে অনেক জায়গায় সংখ্যাগুরু সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষের সঙ্গে সংখ্যালঘুদের বিবাদ হচ্ছে এবং সংখ্যালঘুদের উপর নানারকম আক্রমণ নেমে আসছে, যা বহুত্ববাদী ভারতের চরিত্রবিরোধী এবং আরএসএসের লক্ষ্য অনুযায়ী রাজনীতিতে ধর্মকে মিশিয়ে দেওয়ার এবং সমাজের সামরিকীকরণের পথ প্রশস্ত করে।
ঠিক একই পদ্ধতিতে, একই কাজের উদ্দেশ্যে গত ১৩ মার্চ এই চ্যানেলটির তথাকথিত সাংবাদিকরা যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অরবিন্দ ভবনে চড়াও হন। সেখানকার ছাত্রছাত্রীদের সঙ্গে কথা না বলে, বিনা অনুমতিতে তাঁদের ভিডিও তুলতে শুরু করেন। ছাত্রছাত্রীরা বাধা দিলে চ্যানেলটির তথাকথিত সাংবাদিকরা চিৎকার করে বলতে থাকেন ‘তোমরা দেশদ্রোহী, মাওবাদী, ভারত ভাগ চাও’ ইত্যাদি। ছাত্রছাত্রীরা প্রতিবাদ করলে অচলাবস্থার সৃষ্টি হয়। ওই তথাকথিত সাংবাদিকরা দলীয় গুণ্ডার মতো আচরণ করে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মাইক, ক্যামেরা ইত্যাদি দিয়ে আঘাত করেন। অবশেষে কর্তৃপক্ষ ক্যাম্পাসে পুলিশ ডেকে ওঁদের বার করে দিতে বাধ্য হন। একটি শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানে এমন ঘটনা সমাজের বুকে গভীর ক্ষত সৃষ্টি করে। আমাদের আশঙ্কা, ছাত্রছাত্রীদের উপর একটি প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক সংবাদমাধ্যমের এই ধরনের দুর্ব্যবহার ও তার মোকাবিলা করতে ক্যাম্পাসে পুলিশ আনতে বাধ্য হওয়া আরও বড় দুর্দিনের ইঙ্গিত। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চত্বরে মুক্তচিন্তার পাশাপাশি সত্যনিষ্ঠ সাংবাদিকতার উপরেও এ এক আঘাত।
এই ধরনের ঘটনাকে ব্যবহার করে রাষ্ট্রের হিংস্র থেকে হিংস্রতর হয়ে ওঠার দৃষ্টান্ত ইতিহাসে রয়েছে। তাই আজ এই ধরনের গণতন্ত্রবিরোধী প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলি সম্পর্কে প্রত্যেক গণতন্ত্রপ্রিয় সংবাদমাধ্যম, পত্রপত্রিকা ও গণসংগঠনগুলির মুখ খোলা প্রয়োজন, যাতে যে-কোনও গণতান্ত্রিক অনুশীলনের জায়গায় এই ধরনের অগণতান্ত্রিক কার্যকলাপ আটকানো যায়।

Statement from Alternative Media in West Bengal Against the Misdeeds of Republic Bangla
The demand for student union elections and the news of the Education Minister’s alleged attempt to murder a student at Jadavpur University have spread like wildfire. Students from various places, along with democracy-loving citizens, have raised their voices in protest against such crimes. However, instead of presenting these simple truths, certain media outlets are running a well-planned propaganda campaign against Jadavpur University and the pro-democracy student community. Leading this charge is the electronic news channel Republic Bangla.
For some time now, this channel has once again begun labelling Jadavpur University and the democratic student community as “anti-national.” In reality, this is part of an ongoing effort to manipulate public opinion against Jadavpur University, the pro-democracy student community, and democratic movements as a whole. This is not the first time this channel has engaged in such false propaganda against just and democratic movements. Similar campaigns were run against the anti-CAA-NRC protests, the farmers’ movement, and others. At the same time, Republic Bangla consistently promotes the ideological agenda of a particular ruling political party. This has led to increased conflicts between the majority and minority communities in various places, often resulting in violent attacks on minorities. Such actions go against the pluralistic character of India and serve the objectives of the RSS, which aims to integrate religion into politics and militarize society.
Following the same strategy and with similar intentions, on March 13, so-called journalists from Republic Bangla stormed the Aurobindo Bhavan at Jadavpur University. Without speaking to the students and without permission, they started recording videos. When students objected, these so-called journalists began shouting accusations such as “You are anti-nationals, Maoists, you want to divide India,” etc. When students protested, the situation escalated. These so-called journalists behaved like party goons, physically attacking students with microphones and cameras. Eventually, the university authorities were forced to call the police to remove them from the campus. Such an incident leaves a deep scar on society.
We fear that such misconduct by an institutional media house and the need to call the police to handle it signal even darker days ahead. This is not just an attack on free thinking within a university campus but also on truthful journalism.
History has shown that incidents like this pave the way for a more violent and repressive state. Therefore, it is crucial for every pro-democracy media house, newspaper, and mass organization to speak out against these undemocratic forces so that such activities can be prevented in any democratic space.
